Christmas Wreath Making
The PSFA are disappointed they unable to run their Christmas wreath making workshops because of the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. However, Wendy Gordon
of Well Bean Gardening has come up with the brilliant idea of wreath making kits with step-by-step instructions. She is also selling beautiful ready-made wreaths and has generously offered to make a donation to the PSFA for every kit or wreath sold, if Birchwood High School is mentioned at the point of ordering.

Christmas Trees
Although its still early to be thinking about Christmas trees, please bear us in mind when the time comes! Squires of Stansted will be running their Christmas tree scheme again this year. If you mention Birchwood when buying a tree, they will kindly donate £5 to the PSFA.
Gardening continues at Birchwood
Last term, working in partnership with Birchwood Parents Staff and Friends Association (PSFA) Well Bean Gardening secured some funding from the Stort Valley and Villages Primary Care Network to run a gardening session once a week in school to promote a healthy lifestyle and good mental wellbeing. Then COVID-19 struck....
However, with the extension of lockdown, and the fact that the school is still open to vulnerable and key workers’ children we’ve decided to run a session on a Tuesday afternoon for students and staff to attend.
We have been gardening in the sunshine, keeping well apart, planting seeds, two rows of potatoes and started sorting out the compost bin. The aim is to create a green, restful space full of colour and good things to eat and to have some fun while we’re doing it!

Earlier in December, Wendy Gordon from Well Bean Gardening hosted two Christmas Wreath Making Workshops. Over the two evenings, 17 beautiful Christmas Wreaths were made. The PSFA would like to say a special ‘thank you’ to Wendy for her support.
Cracking Christmas Fayre
Santa’s Grotto at our PSFA Christmas Fayre certainly had the wow factor! Our second Christmas Fayre was an enormous success. Over thirty stall holders attended and the Parent Staff and Friends Association ran the refreshments, tombola, raffle, and Santa’s Grotto. Showtime Booths provided an opportunity for fayre goers to snap themselves with a variety of Christmas themed props, while The Woodwind of Stortford and our own Vocalise choir provided festive music. Alyson Bailey from Guide Dogs For The Blind brought along two guide dogs who were a great hit with children and adults alike. The Belgian Brewer offered gift sets of artisan Belgian style beer and also offered beer on tap. Children were able to make their own Christmas tree decorations with Mrs Jackson, ably assisted by Dr Allen. The face painting and hair braiding stalls were also big hits.
Santa’s Grotto was sponsored by Chantry Associates Ltd, Premier Contract Flooring and Décor and Belvoir! Lettings Agents. The creative skills of Mrs Augustine, Mrs Barnard & Mrs Turner transformed A2 into a magical Lapland scene. The scene was completed with the arrival of Santa and his elf helper. There was great excitement as children entered the grotto and gasps of amazement at the spectacle inside.
