It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Birchwood High School's Catering Department.
I hope you will see that our aim is to provide fresh, high-quality food, delivered and prepared on a daily basis, using local suppliers. We hope that students will enjoy their food and mealtimes with us. Please feel free to contact us if your child needs help or has any special requirements.
We recognise the importance of implementing the Government’s School Food Plan for school lunches in order to provide vital steps in fighting child obesity.
We are proud to announce Birchwood High was awarded ‘Healthy School’ status and gained five stars in the latest Environmental Health inspection (May 2024).

Our daily menu includes a traditional main meal served with vegetables, a vegetarian choice, pasta with a variety of sauces, wraps, sandwiches, salads and jacket potatoes with various fillings.
For dessert, we offer a wide range of fresh fruit and homemade cakes.
Drinks are always available, including mineral water, natural juices and milk.
Opening Times
- Breakfast: from 8:00 - 8:40am for all students
- Breaktime: from 11:05am for all students
- Lunchtime: from 1:00pm for Sixth Form and staff. From 1:25 - 2:00pm for all students.

All menus and food packaging will have food allergens printed on them, or students can go to the Café Help Desk where advice is available. Please note that we produce food in a kitchen where allergens are handled and while we try to keep food separate, we cannot guarantee that any item is allergy free.
Cashless Catering - Biometrics Information
At Birchwood, we have a biometric recognition system to allow students to purchase food in our Café. There is a daily maximum spending limit of £8.00 for all students. The Café does not accept cash, students must use a biometric system or PIN number and top ups are made by using ParentPay.
