Parents, Staff and Friends Association
This year we have launched our new Parents, Staff and Friends Association (PSFA). This will bring together members of our school community who are keen to support with organised events, develop business links and raise money for the school.
The inaugural PSFA meeting was held on 15th March and was attended by a mix of parents and staff who were all enthusiastic to ensure the success of the new venture. Jane Wach was elected as Chair, Katie Horwood as Secretary and Hilary Scotcher as Treasurer. A constitution was adopted and we are now in a position to register with the Charity Commission.
New faces are more than welcome at our meetings! Being involved with the PSFA is a great opportunity to get to know the school better and to meet and get to know other parents. If you would like to become involved, whether on a regular or ad hoc basis, or you are interested in keeping up to date with developments, please contact the Committee via e-mail at email@example.com.

Family Quiz Night
Lots of fun was had at the recent Birchwood PSFA Quiz Night which took place on the 30th June. The evening was a great success with 10 teams taking part including a table of staff from our Senior Leadership Team; Mrs Price turned out to be particularly knowledgeable about 90's boy bands! Mrs Jackson's team, 'Archie Leach', were victorious, beating the runners up 'The Old Guard' by a mere point.
The PSFA would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us by attending, our volunteer helpers and to Mr Morton who did a brilliant job as our Quiz Master for the night. Enormous thanks also go to the individuals and businesses who donated raffle prizes including Paradise Wildlife Park, Muse Boutique, McDonalds and Tiffany at Preen Hairdressers.
This was the PSFA's first event and we were thrilled with its success. We are enormously grateful to Barclays Bank who have generously agreed to match the total raised on the night, taking the final amount raised to £1400.
Birchwood Bonus Ball
Thank you very much to everyone who signed up to take part in our Birchwood Bonus Ball Club this term. We had a great response of 85 entries! 50% of subscriptions have been allocated as prize money and 50% to PSFA funds, which makes a monthly prize of £42.50. The draw for April was made by Mr Connor, and witnessed by two members of school staff. Congratulations go to Amanda Goodvin who is our first winner with number 43.
Sally Whyman was our winner for May with number 72 which was drawn by Mrs Price, and Sarah Ficken is our latest winner for June with number 44 drawn by Mrs Garner.
The Birchwood Bonus Ball Club is now closed to new subscriptions for this term, but if you missed out this time there will be plenty of opportunity to join in after the Summer break.
Second Hand Uniform
As the Summer holidays approach, please consider donating good condition items of second hand uniform including maroon blazers, maroon jumpers and skirts as stock for our second hand stall. Please drop off clean items of second hand uniform to our Visitor Reception.
We have a number of 'as new' old style kilts in stock which would be suitable for girls going into Year 11. These are available for sale at a cost of £10 each. We also have some 'as new' old style green blazers at £10 each which would be suitable for Year 11 students. For a full list of sizes available and to reserve items, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. These can then be collected by parents from Visitors Reception. Please note that reception staff are not able to accept cash from students.
We are considering holding a wine tasting evening in the Autumn term. This would cater for a maximum of thirty people and if it is a success we would like to make it a regular event. If you would be interested in coming along to an event like this, please let us know.
Although Christmas is still a very long way off, we are starting to plan for our Christmas Market which we will be holding on 24th November. We are hoping to make this an annual Christmas shopping event with festive crafts and food. Pitches for stalls will be available to book on a first come first served basis, so please register your interest early if you would like to reserve a pitch by e-mailing email@example.com Further details will follow closer to the event.
