Curriculum Plans
We know that every student’s strengths, interests and ambitions are different. Our curriculum plans are designed to provide the right level of challenge and support, helping students build a programme of study that suits their goals while preparing them for success beyond Sixth Form. The information below outlines the entry requirements and expectations for each pathway.
Please note, all students wishing to study at Birchwood High School Sixth Form must have achieved a grade 4 in Maths and English at GSCE.
CURRICULUM PLAN ONE
Curriculum Plan One: 4 A Levels:
To study 4 A Levels, students must achieve a minimum total points score (TPS) of 48, as well as the required grade(s) for their chosen subjects.
Students who do not meet this requirement may still be considered depending on their subject choices and results.
In addition to their A Level subjects, students will be expected to take part in extra qualifications and/or enrichment activities to support their learning and wider development.
CURRICULUM PLAN TWO

To study 3 A Levels or a combination of 2 A Levels and a BTEC, students must achieve a minimum total points score of 40, as well as the required grade(s) for their chosen subjects.
Students who do not meet this requirement may still be considered depending on their subject choices and results.

CURRICULUM PLAN THREE
Curriculum Plan Three: 1 Double BTEC and 1 BTEC single or 1 A Level

Total Point Score
We operate a Total Point Score system that measures what students achieve at GCSE / BTEC Level 2. This will be done by taking the best 8 subject grades. These are then added together to produce a Total Point Score, as shown in the example below.
