Dane wins House Cup
Well Done to everyone who has taken part in the House events this year, gone the extra mile and received Vivo’s as a reward. Dane won the cup this year with an impressive 17,838 points, Stort came second, Hadham came third and Waytemore came fourth.
House raises £3803 for Gosh and Edie's Butterfly Appeal
GOSH has been our national charity this year and is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare.
The hospital is dedicated to children’s healthcare and to finding new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses. Judy Kuhl, an ambassador of the charity, came into talk about the work they do and to accept a cheque from us. Thank you for coming in Judy!
Edie’s Butterfly Appeal was our local charity. They give Hope Through Research For All Children Fighting Ependymoma. Since Edie was diagnosed with ependymoma in 2011 they have been working tirelessly to raise awareness and much needed funds for their research.
Both charities received a cheque for £1,901.70.
Young Carers go to Vire
On Friday 23rd March, the Vire Zone in Bishop’s Stortford town centre opened its doors to a group of ten students aged between eleven to sixteen from Birchwood High School.
The students, who are all young carers, took part in a range of activities including the Nuclear Launch Escape Room, virtual reality computer games and the Nerf Battle Arena. They all had a wonderful time, demonstrating great team work and resourcefulness. The idea behind the trip was to provide an opportunity for the students to enjoy themselves and bond as a group. Due to their home circumstances young carers may not have the chances to socialise and have fun that other students do. By the end of the hour and a half session, everyone had tried at least two activities, there were big smiles all round and the confidence of the group had visibly increased. Feedback from the students was that…

Kate Byers, Community Manager at Birchwood High School thanked Ian Cox, owner of the centre, and his staff for their time and generosity in making the afternoon possible.
Year 9 GCSE Dance and Drama
The Year 9 GCSE Dance and Drama students put on an excellent evening of performances last night to show off their talent and passion for the arts.
The first half of the evening showcased a selection of Dance work based on the theme of ‘opposites’. The students performed various duets/trios using different stimuli as well as three whole class pieces. The first act closed with a dance based on ‘girl power’ using the Suffragette movement as inspiration.
The second half of the evening showcased a selection of Drama work based on pictures of different faces. The work was very abstract and in a Brechtian style, highlighting features such as the use of chorus and multi-rolling. The evening closed with a piece based on Grenfell Tower- there was not a dry eye in the audience!
The students work was to an incredibly high standard and they really enjoyed creating theperformances that were seen. I am incredibly impressed with all the students focus, commitment and team work! Well done to all those involved and all those that came to support.
